Kimberly Snyder

Kimberly Snyder, Author of Beauty detox solutions, she is fantastic to pull on for some of her knowledge and inspiration. She also has a great website www.kimberlysnyder.net that also has a great blog and fab resources.

Her diet includes would quinoa, fresh veggies, superfood shakes, super shots, and wellness shots.
There are so many healthy green foods, like green salad, avocado, apples, and juice.
Fitness regimen: Vinyasa yoga three to five days a week for 90 minutes. Twenty of those minutes are devoted to meditation.
M.O.: "My approach is rooted in digestion, so I look at the order and the combination of the foods themselves. For example, I never eat fruit after eating protein or starches. I also don't drink water while I'm eating because I believe that it slows down the digestion of food in my system."
Core advice: "Don't count calories or reduce food to numbers — 400 calories from potato chips and 400 calories from an avocado are not the same thing."

The food that changed my life was/is: Major changes started happening when I started drinking my fiber-filled Glowing Green Smoothie (Stay tuned for the recipe later today!). My energy, skin, weight and hair improved. The next most important food has been the Probiotic & Enzyme salad, which is basically raw sauerkraut. Probiotic-rich foods encourage better digestion, which is key for improved health and beauty. The Glowing Green Smoothie

In the kitchen, I swear by: My Vitamix blenders. I have a few of those too.

Favorite on the go snack: Chia Acai Smoothie
-1 tablespoons of chia
-1/2 cup of water
-1/2 banana
-1/2 packet frozen acai smoothie package
-1 cup almond milk.
Directions:
1. Soak chia in water overnight in refrigerator.
2. Add chia gel, banana, acai and almond milk to a blender and mix well.

The first thing after I wake up: I have a mug of hot water with half a lemon

Go-to juice blend: My Glowing Green Smoothie. It has fiber, which juices lack. I find it essential for my daily, ongoing cleanse regimen.

Yoga pose(s) most often practiced: I love to be upside down and get a new perspective. Also, so refreshing. So I do a lot of forearm and handstands.

When I want to indulge I: Get a 2-hour deep tissue massage. Or take a quick trip to Western Puerto Rico, which is only a 3-hour plane ride from New York. It has been a great inspiration to me for my nutrition writing and recipe-creating.

Opening GLOW BIO has taught me: It’s been a pretty humbling experience to look up at the wall and see my name on the front of a storefront, and know that I get to be a channel for this information to flow through, which belongs to everyone. It is one thing to start seeing a book you write in different bookstores, but books can be picked up and moved. A brick and mortar store is really…well solid! We’ve carved out a health home in the world where all are welcome. It is exciting and I feel very grateful.

Kimberly Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie
Ingredients
-
1 1/2 cups water

-
1 head organic romaine lettuce,
chopped
-3-4 stalks organic celery

-
1/2 head of a large bunch, or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
-
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
-
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
-
1 organic banana

-
Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon

Optional
-1/3 bunch organic cilantro (stems okay)

-
1/3 bunch organic parsley (stems okay)

Directions

Add the water and chopped head of romaine to the blender. Starting the blender at low speed, mix until smooth. Gradually moving to higher speeds, add the celery, apple and pear. Add the cilantro and parsley, if you are choosing to add them. Add the banana and lemon juice last.
The fruit and lemon cut right though the grass taste. Feel free to mix and match different greens and fruits, as these two specific food groups combine well.

Here are 4 easy ways to apply your Beauty Detox Solution right now- no matter what situation you are in:
1)Try to limit all liquids with meals. Liquids dilute digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid in the stomach and make digestion slower and harder. Hydrate in significant quantities between meals.
2) Only eat fruit on an empty stomach, and never for dessert. Remember the Ferrari analogy? Fruit digests very quickly out of the stomach, and if we eat it after heavier foods it may cause a “traffic jam”, and we may become bloated and we may create more toxicity in body, in the form of fermented (rotted) matter.
3) Try to keep protein and dairy out of your mornings. We’re in cleanse mode at that time and our bodies haven’t started digesting food yet…forget calorie counting. This is about cleansing your body on a daily basis. Having animal protein twice or more a day- ie  an omelet in the morning, then chicken at lunch and dinner, is too acidic (aging). If you like eggs have them later in the day. Instead, have the Glowing Green Smoothie, or if you can’t have that try the suggestions for Blossoming Beauty. Also,  fruit followed a bit later by oatmeal, or by almond milk and a quality granola is not “wierd.” If you can find gluten-free bread, have a piece of that with some avocado. Again, that isn’t too hard or weird!
4) At lunch and dinner try to separate your proteins and starches. Have one or the other. Simpler meals with fewer food groups digest easier. For example, at a restaurant order fish with veggies or brown rice with veggies but not fish with brown rice.
We can all do these 4 things right now! Keep your eyes on the beautiful, radiant forest ahead…and don’t worry about each individual tree!
Love, Kimberly

What Causes Aging?
In The Beauty Detox Solution, I go into great detail about built-up toxicity (sludge) that amasses in the body from eating improper foods and poor digestion. This sludge reduces space in the body as well as oxygen flow, and is a major cause of aging.
Also, many scientists have advanced the hypothesis that one of the primary causes of aging is oxidative stress. According to a journal article review printed in Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause oxidative stress may damage DNA, fats, and proteins in the body, thus leading to aging.
So what are ROS? They are molecules that are a natural byproduct of metabolism and are extremely reactive in the body. In balance, your body is quickly able to repair any damage caused by ROS. When behavior or health conditions cause your system to get out of stasis, however, your body loses its ability to keep up with the necessary repairs and damage results. Many behaviors and health conditions may lead to these circumstances, including smoking; excess intake of chemicals, sugar, and alcohol; air pollution; broken metabolism; inflammation; chemicals in our food and water supply; excessive and prolonged exercise; intake of large amounts of processed foods; and many others.
Oxidative stress not only ages your skin and outsides, but can also cause aging on the insides, as well. In severe cases, unmanaged oxidative stress can even lead to disease such as atherosclerosis and cancer.

Vitamins to Prevent Aging
Many vitamins can help your body fight aging. Those containing antioxidants are particularly effective, because the antioxidants help your body manage ROS before damage occurs. The Beauty Detox System is a plan that is high in these antioxidant vitamins, which is one of the reasons it is so effective at fighting aging and promoting a vibrant and youthful appearance.
I am a strong believer in getting the vitamins your body needs from healthful foods rather than swallowing a pill. Our bodies are better equipped to process and utilize the natural vitamins found in food as opposed to synthetic vitamins that come in a bottle. One scientific review looked at more than 70 randomized studies on the effects of supplements and concluded there was no evidence to support vitamin supplements promoted longer life or better health. In fact, it showed taking some vitamins in supplement form may even shorten life. Therefore, I think it’s really important that you get the vitamins you need from food, where they are extremely bioavailable and your body can utilize them. However, that being said,  taking a whole-food based multivitamin supplement can be good insurance. Choose one that contains D3 and the B complex family of vitamins, instead of taking a dozen different pills.
With that in mind, let’s look at some of the top anti-aging vitamins, as well as the foods you can eat to get them.

Beta carotene
Foods containing beta carotene:
                Carrots
                Sweet potatoes
                Spinach
                Kale
                Turnip greens
                Dharma’s Kale Salad
Benefits:
Beta carotene converts to retinol, which is an active form of vitamin A. It has immune-enhancing properties that can prevent damage from illness and inflammation and is high in antioxidant activity and anti-aging compounds, which prevent cell damage and promote health.

Vitamin A
Foods containing vitamin A:
                Sweet potato
                Carrots
                Dark leafy greens
                Winter squash
                Glowing Green Smoothie
Benefits:
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin. It plays a role in maintaining healthy vision, strengthens your immune system, and help maintains cell growth and renewal. It is also an antioxidant that fights oxidative stress.

Vitamin C
Foods containing vitamin C:
                Citrus fruits
                Bell peppers
                Cantaloupe
                Strawberries
                Kale
                Broccoli
                Kiwi
Benefits:
Vitamin C is a great antioxidant, and can provide protection against free-radical damage. It can also help with iron absorption to maintain your blood, as well as assisting with vitamin E regeneration. Vitamin C is also protective against many health conditions, including certain cancers and cataracts.

Vitamin E
Foods containing vitamin E:

                Sunflower seeds
                Almonds
                Spinach
                Broccoli
                Tomato
                Hazelnuts
Benefits:
Another fat-soluble vitamin, vitamin E is an antioxidant that can protect your skin from UV damage, fight free-radical damage both topically and internally, and protect you against disease.

Vitamin K
Foods containing vitamin K:
                Dark leafy greens
                Romaine lettuce
                Broccoli
                Parsley
Benefits:
Vitamin K helps blood clot, and can help prevent one of the visible signs of aging: dark circles under your eyes. These are often caused by leaky capillaries, so consuming vitamin K-rich foods is a great way to clot the blood before it creates puffy, dark circles. It can also help you maintain bone strength, which is important for osteoporosis prevention.

B complex vitamins
Food sources of B complex vitamins:
                Shiitake mushrooms
                Sunflower seeds
                Potatoes
                Nutritional yeast
Benefits:
There are several B-complex vitamins, but those that can really help you with aging include niacin, which helps your skin retain moisture, and biotin, which helps keep your hair and nails healthy and strong.
